Vale John Flaherty
It is with sadness that we relay news of the passing of Mulgrave life member John Flaherty after a battle with illness.
John played for Mulgrave from 1965 to 1973 and was a member of the 1970 Reserves premiership team.
Following his playing career John became an exceptionally hard worker around the club, serving as treasurer and a committee member for many years. A highlight of John’s contribution was his ability to pull together functions that were fantastic social events for members and great fundraisers for the club. His most notable effort was a huge MFC dinner held at Moorabbin Town Hall, with international comedians as entertainment. Those around the club at the time will remember it well.
John has been described as “a typical Mulgrave man, well liked by all and a genuinely good bloke that will be very much missed”.
All at MFC pass on our condolences to John’s wife Margot, son Greg, daughters Kate and Rebecca, his grandchildren and John’s extended family and friends.
Our players will wear black armbands next Saturday in remembrance of John and his contribution to our club. He was one of us.
RIP John.
